How God Views Money
It’s easy to believe that the things we possess determine who we are as humans, so we try and control what we have (1 Timothy 6:6-10). But all we have — our possessions, talents, opportunities — is from God (Deuteronomy 8:17-20). They’re not ours. In the same way, the spiritual discipline of sacrificial obedience and giving are the best way to honor God and put Him first (Romans 12:2; Malachi 3:8-12). That’s why something like money is never just about money with God (Luke 15:8-10; Mark 12; 2 Corinthians 9:6-8). It reveals the character of our hearts. But God’s view about money is less about “what” and all about “why”; less about “how” and all about “heart” (John 15:9-13).
1) How do I define my life and myself?
2) What is my view on giving? Why do I give?
3) How can I have a heart that’s willing to sacrifice and give?
