With Great Words Comes Great Responsibility
The words we speak have power — perhaps more than we realize (Proverbs 18:21). We need to fight the urge to say whatever we want and instead accept the responsibility to Jesus to speak life (Matthew 5:21-22). It’s possible to speak life in all circumstances, to celebrate during high points and to disagree without dehumanizing (1 Corinthians 10:23-24). There are moments when it’s hard to choose life-giving words, and in those times, we can lean on the power of God to change our hearts. We don’t need a title or status to speak life over someone else. With Jesus’ help we can grow the fruit we want to eat. (Ephesians 4:29; Malachi 4:6).
1) Who is God calling me to speak life into?
2) Do my words give life or death?
3) Who is speaking life over me?
